What's actually in your water

Charlotte's water is legal.
That's not the same as clean.

Charlotte Water passes every federal test — zero violations. But federal limits were set decades ago, and they're annual averages. Here's what their own 2024 report shows.

102 ppb

Chlorine byproducts (TTHM)

Chlorinating lake water creates cancer-linked trihalomethanes. Charlotte's yearly average is ~64 ppb, and individual samples reached 102 — the 80 ppb federal limit applies to the average, not the spike. Carbon & RO remove them.

Charlotte Water 2024 CCR
PFAS

"Forever chemicals" — detected

PFAS were found in Charlotte's treated water (below the EPA's new 4 ppt limit). In 2024 the EPA set the first-ever national limits — the science keeps pointing lower. Reverse osmosis removes them at your sink.

On a well? You're on your own.

No one tests private wells. Piedmont bedrock here means iron, manganese, low pH and radon — and in Union County, NC DEQ found roughly 1 in 5 wells over the arsenic limit, with "do-not-drink" advisories near Indian Trail. If you're on a well, testing isn't optional.

We won't sell you what you don't need. Every metro utility here draws the same soft Catawba-basin surface water — so if someone tries to sell you a "hard water" softener on city water, that's a red flag. City homes usually need filtration + drinking-water RO (chlorine, TTHM, PFAS); well homes in the SC & outlying areas usually need the full stack — softening + iron / manganese / low-pH neutralizer / radon. Your free test tells us which.

Straight answers

Questions, answered honestly.

Is Charlotte's tap water actually safe?

It's legal — Charlotte Water had zero violations in 2024. But "legal" limits were set decades ago and are annual averages. Their own report shows chlorine byproducts (TTHM) in individual samples and PFAS present. Whether you filter is about the health standard you want, not just the legal minimum.

Do I even need a water softener?

If you're on Charlotte city water — probably not. City water is naturally soft (about 1.9 grains/gallon). Softeners mostly help well homes and the harder water in the SC and outlying areas. We'll tell you the truth after we test.

Is the free test just a sales pitch in disguise?

Fair question. Our testers aren't on commission, so there's no incentive to oversell you. Plenty of tests end with us saying your water's fine. If you do need something, you'll see published prices — never a "today only" number.

How much does a system cost?

Installed systems start at $2,900 — fully licensed, warrantied, with 0% financing available (as low as ~$121/mo). Whole-home packages are quoted and shown to you up front. No surprises.

How long does installation take?

Most drinking-water systems install in a couple of hours; whole-home systems in a day. Licensed, insured, and we clean up after ourselves. You'll get the exact scope in writing before we start.

I'm on a well. Is that different?

Very. Wells are unregulated and untested by anyone but you. Piedmont bedrock commonly means iron, manganese, low pH and radon. In Union County especially, NC DEQ found roughly 1 in 5 private wells over the arsenic limit — parts of Indian Trail even got "do-not-drink" advisories. If you're on a well in Waxhaw, Weddington, Marvin, Monroe or Indian Trail, a test is the only way to know, and it's where treatment matters most.

I'm in Rock Hill / Fort Mill / Indian Land — is my water different from Charlotte's?

Same river, honestly. Charlotte, Rock Hill, Fort Mill, Tega Cay and Indian Land all draw soft surface water from the Catawba basin, so a "hard water" softener is rarely the answer on city water. What differs is the details: Rock Hill's own 2024 report shows TTHM reaching 86 ppb at some taps (over the 80 ppb limit the average has to meet); Indian Land (LCWSD) uses chloramine and measured PFOA/PFOS right at the new 4 ppt federal limit. On city water the fix is carbon filtration + drinking-water RO, and we'll show you your utility's numbers.
